Diagram makes pretty clear why there is a problem with fluid dynamics :-)

Yes, look carefully at the “map of scientific fields” in 1997 and compare it to the situation in 2006. Obviously, the TOP field 47: Fluid dynamics had moved to the center, meaning that many Phys. Rev. ABCDELETT are there. But there are better places for it: Physics of Fluids, Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Experiments in Fluids, if you wish. What a shame. Don’t be surprised that there are no major breakthroughs in transport, combustion, propulsion, wind engineering, weather prediction, climate change prediction (through ocean dynamics and cloud dynamics, for example). When the solution is to find ‘scaling laws’ for everything I don’t think we can expect any significant technological progress 🙂
