Shipping is one of the most fuel-efficient ways to move freight, but the industry still produces significant greenhouse-gas emissions, including more than a quarter of the world’s nitrogen oxides emissions. Reducing drag is likely to be the most effective way of mitigating environmental impact. Ships that slip faster and more easily through the water use less energy and produce fewer emissions.
