Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV)

Yes, that's right, we got Technorati's tag "piv". I thought it's about time to let people know more about Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Of course, the idea is to promote the open-source Matlab toolbox for PIV - URAPIV and our three-dimensional extension to PIV, the XPIV project.
Next step will be to claim the Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) and 3D-PTV. There is a difference, less semantic, more intrinsic: PTV is sometimes used by PIV community to describe a super-resolution algorithm for 2D (two-dimensional) PIV, that uses some sort of tracking to get velocity vector from each particle. 3D-PTV is an unique system, using 4 cameras to track flow tracers (and now also the solid phase particles in the two-phase applications) in three dimensional observational volume.
